Nicola & Ruan
There are some wedding days that feel especially intentional. Not because everything is perfectly styled or because every detail is extravagant, but because you can feel the people you are photographing in every little part of the day.
Ruan and Nicola’s wedding at Inhoek Farm in Arniston was exactly that.
From the very beginning, it was clear that they had planned their day with so much thought, sentiment and heart. Nothing felt like it was there simply because it was expected to be at a wedding. Everything had a reason.
Even their confetti had a story.
Instead of traditional confetti, they used the flowers from every bouquet Ruan had ever given Nicola. Flowers that had once been picked out for an ordinary day, a special occasion, or simply because he was thinking of her, were saved and given a new life as they celebrated the beginning of their marriage. It was such a beautiful little reminder that a life together is made up of all these seemingly small moments — and that, eventually, they become the story.
And then there was Nicola’s dress.
Inspired by her Gran’s wedding dress, it carried something much deeper than simply being beautiful. There was a sense of history in it, of generations and memories being carried forward into something new. It felt so perfectly suited to the rest of the day — romantic, thoughtful and timeless.
Set against the quiet beauty of Inhoek Farm and the winter landscape of Arniston, the whole day felt a little dreamy. The kind of day where you want to slow everything down and take in the small things: the flowers, the fabrics, the glances, the people who travelled to be there, and all the little pieces of a life that Ruan and Nicola had brought together.
What I loved most was that nothing seemed to be done simply for the sake of a photograph.
The photographs came naturally because the moments themselves were meaningful.
A dress inspired by a grandmother.
Flowers that had once been given with love.
A day carefully built around two people and the life they have already shared.
Ruan and Nicola’s wedding was a beautiful reminder that the most memorable wedding days aren't necessarily the ones with the most things. They are the ones where everything means something.
And this one really did.
